Laura Linney has been hailed as one of America's most acclaimed actors. Linney is renowned for playing strong characters that are equally fragile. Born to a renowned playwright's father, and being raised by a single mother who worked as a nurse, she began to take an interest in theater while having summers spent with her father and eventually pursuing a degree in acting initially as a student at Brown University and then at Juilliard School. Starting her acting career on the Broadway shortly after her graduation, she made her debut in films within two years and on television following a year. Her appearances have been in a variety of films, and television and stage productions since then. Her nominations include three Academy Awards, five Tony Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and has won numerous awards throughout her professional career. In spite of all the awards she has received the theatre is still her primary passion and she continues to perform both on screen and on stage.
